About the Uncertainty Initiative

Uncertainty Isn’t a Phase. It’s the Environment We’re Working In.
Leaders today are making decisions without complete information, guiding teams through constant change, and being asked to create clarity in conditions that keep shifting.
What was once considered temporary disruption has become something far more constant.
The Uncertainty Initiative exists to understand this reality and help individuals and organizations lead within it.
What’s Changed About Uncertainty
Uncertainty has always existed.
What’s different now is how it shows up:
- It’s no longer occasional, it’s constant
- It’s no longer isolated, it’s layered and compounding
- It no longer allows time to respond, it demands action in real time
From advances in technologies like artificial intelligence to shifting economic conditions, evolving workforce expectations, and the pace of information, leaders are navigating multiple layers of change at once often without resolution before the next begins.
Current Research: The Uncertainty Study
Take SurveyAs part of this work, we are gathering data across industries to better understand how uncertainty is being experienced in real-world environments.
This foundational study will examine:
- How people perceive environmental volatility
- The psychological impact of prolonged ambiguity
- How leadership communication influences stability
- Organizational adaptability under sustained change
Survey findings will inform:
- Academic research
- Leadership frameworks
- Articles and conference presentations
- Practical tools for organizations
This Is More Than a Study
The Uncertainty Initiative is a long-term effort to define, study, and lead the conversation on uncertainty in today’s workplace.
We are not just observing this shift, we are actively working within it, alongside organizations navigating it every day.
Our Work Includes
Practical Application
Translating research into actionable tools for leaders across industries including healthcare, manufacturing, higher education, nonprofits, and corporate environments.
Thought Leadership
Publishing articles, presenting at academic and professional conferences, and contributing to national conversations about organizational health in uncertain times.
Measurement & Benchmarking
Building toward the development of an Uncertainty Index — a structured way to measure how environments, individuals, and organizations experience and respond to sustained ambiguity.
Cross-Sector Collaboration
Partnering with faculty, practitioners, and leaders to ensure our findings are both academically grounded and practically relevant.
Why This Work Matters
When uncertainty increases, people feel it.
- Decision-making becomes harder
- Communication breaks down
- Teams feel the strain of constant change
- Leaders carry the pressure of not having clear answers
This isn’t just a strategic issue, it’s a human one.
Understanding uncertainty allows us to:
- Reduce unnecessary strain
- Strengthen decision-making under pressure
- Improve communication clarity
- Build adaptable cultures
- Protect long-term organizational health
This Initiative exists to bring structure to what often feels unstructured.
